In food logistics, things need to keep moving. That was one of the big messages at CeMAT Australia 2025, where a handful of delegates were treated to a rare behind-the-scenes look at one of the most advanced manufacturing and logistics operations in the country: Snackbrands Australia.
Snackbrands Australia Operation

A site visit with a difference

As one of Australia’s largest snack food manufacturers, Snackbrands Australia (SBA) runs a tight ship. Their purpose-built Orchard Hills facility produces more than 200 million snack packs every year, supported by 16 AGVs, 43,000 pallet locations, and fully automated production lines that operate with impressive precision.

The scale is impressive, and so is the integration of local sourcing and quality control. SBA uses 100% Australian potatoes sourced daily from local farmers, many of whom are second or third-generation suppliers. Visual and automated quality checks occur at every stage, from colour screening the potatoes before and after cooking, to taste testing every shift. Sustainability and efficiency aren’t just talking points here. They’re baked into every bag of chips SBA produces.

Mobiledock in motion

With this scale of production, a smooth flow of inbound and outbound logistics is essential. A single delay can ripple through the entire operation. That’s where Mobiledock comes in. Delegates on the tour saw first-hand how Mobiledock helps SBA manage every aspect of vehicle movement, from arrival scheduling and dock allocation to secure access and real-time visibility.

Mobiledock’s automated dock management ensures that the right vehicles arrive at the right time, access the site seamlessly, and depart on schedule. It’s all about keeping things moving, without the congestion or manual coordination that can slow things down.

CeMAT in full swing

Back on the show floor, the Mobiledock stand was buzzing. Attendees lined up to see a live simulation of a high-volume loading dock powered by Mobiledock. The interactive demo brought the technology to life, showing how smart scheduling, compliance controls, and real-time comms come together in a centralised system designed for logistics teams that can’t afford to stand still.

A huge thank you to our stand partners who helped create an engaging, hands-on experience:

  • Superbolt: a digital signage platform helping organisations deliver dynamic content across screens in one or multiple locations.
  • Parcsafe: experts in seamless parking solutions that enhance site security and user convenience.

A true just-in-time system

Whether touring the site or exploring the stand, one thing became clear: smart logistics is all about integration. Delegates at Orchard Hills saw how Mobiledock works in tandem with Daifuku’s automated warehouse control system. Pallet movements are sequenced and orders are prepared based on real-time data from Mobiledock, ensuring dispatch is perfectly aligned with truck arrival times. It’s a true just-in-time system, one that delivers both precision and performance.

A big thanks to Snackbrands

For logistics professionals, being able to look under the bonnet of an operation like SBA is an invaluable experience. It was a powerful demonstration of how advanced technology, from smart docks to AGVs to integrated WMS, can transform the speed, accuracy and resilience of supply chain operations.

A huge thank you to Darryl Malton and the Snackbrands Australia team for hosting us and showcasing the future of food logistics in action, and for the delicious site visit goodie bag!

As one attendee put it:

“Incredible to see automation at this scale in action. The Snackbrands facility is a standout! Love seeing innovation like this driving smart logistics and efficiency across the supply chain. Well done to everyone involved!”
